CA Props November 2nd
Prop 19 – No
I have had too many conversations with police, neighborhood councils, and charities about marijuana and the negative effects it has on individuals, schools, families, and communities to allow such a foolish prop like 19 to pass. As a manager of a business, I have had several experiences with employees who have come in high and have seen firsthand how dangerous it is for these people in such a state to operate company equipment and deal with customers. With full confidence, I urge you to vote NO on 19. Don’t let the simple argument from supporters of prop 19, in which they state marijuana should be legalized because alcohol is, convince you to vote their way.
Prop 20 – Yes
Don’t let elected officials (ahem… Howard Berman) continue to gerrymander the congressional districts of California. People complain they don’t have active representation. That’s because the elected officials don’t need to represent you, as they are guaranteed a win time and time again with the current redistricting laws. Stop the insanity and let the Citizens Redistricting Commission (approved by CA voters in 2008) redistrict California.

Prop 21 – No
So the state of California is tugging at your heartstrings again with this one. If this bill passes, you will pay an additional fee of $18.00 on your vehicle registration fees whether you use the state parks or not. The state needs to learn how to budget just like the rest of us. Giving extra money to the state in this case prevents them from learning and is like giving alcohol to an alcoholic, hoping they will stop drinking. We as a public need to take the responsibility for the parks, visiting them often and inviting friends to do the same.
Prop 22 – Yes
I’m a small government-type and do not think the State should be able to take or borrow money from local communities. Similar to Prop 21, the state government needs to cut, trim, and readjust their budget to get through this tough time just like the rest of us are doing privately.
Prop 23 – Yes
See website under blog portion for full explanation. ** It is still our responsibility to be good stewards of our country and land whether or not AB 32 is postponed.
Prop 24 - No
Recently there was legislation passed that would allow businesses to lower their tax liability. This would encourage companies to stay local and continue to hire and innovate in our state. This Prop would turn that legislation over and increase the taxes. More taxes = less freedom. Vote NO on Prop 24.
Prop 25 – No
This would allow the budget in Sacramento to be passed by simple majority vs. the two-thirds requirement currently in place. Unlike sports in which you have two opposing teams and one needs to win, in the state, we need everyone to win. The current voting standard requires elected officials from all parties to work together to agree on a budget. Keep it this way. Vote NO.
Prop 26 - Yes
This would require that increases in state and local fees (clever word for taxes) be passed by a two-thirds vote, again forcing both sides to work hand-in-hand to get something passed. Win for California and loss for party politics.
Prop 27 - NO
NO! My opponent’s brother, Michael Berman led redistricting in 2000 and helped gerrymander the whole state. A few years ago, California voters passed Prop 11, taking the reins of redistricting from elected officials and placing them into the hands of a Citizens Redistricting Commission, consisting of 14 registered voters (5 Dems, 5 Reps, and 4 others). Now my opponent and several other elected officials see that this could harm their chances of an easy re-election and are using campaign money to promote this proposition. Too bad for them. Vote NO on Prop 27.
