Hard Work & Sacrifice
Through my father, a small business-owner in Texas, I learned the value of hard work and sacrifice. When he began his business, he was the sole proprietor and employee. For years, he worked on call - he had to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to ensure vital medical supplies, including blood and other life-saving materials, arrived at hospitals throughout our hometown on time. My tweenaged self didn’t always understand or appreciate the work that he undertook, as it sometimes meant that he had to miss family gatherings, school functions and risk his health due to lack of sleep. Looking back, I see that he was not just investing in his business - he was working to ensure that my brothers, my mother and I had the very best lives possible. He sacrificed, not out of ego, but out of his responsibility and commitment to our family.
Merlin Froyd, I believe, has that same tenacity and commitment to our country. He values and understands hard work and sacrifice. His personal story, that of a young man who moves away from his small, northern Minnesotan town to pursue his goals in Los Angeles, is a testament to these values. Since I began volunteering with his campaign a few months ago, I’ve seen him hard at work - not simply to get elected, but to contribute, to the best of his ability, to our democracy. He’s out walking, talking and connecting everyday with people all over the 28th district, to learn about life from their perspectives. He is seeking to learn how he, as a public servant, can help make the lives of fellow citizens in his district just a little bit better in these very difficult times. Because of his background as a successful businessman, his history of volunteerism in the community, and his ever-present “can-do” spirit, I am absolutely convinced that Merlin can relate to folks like my dad, and millions of Americans who are trying to provide for their families and be productive members of society.
